Capacitive Touchscreen LCD
Simply put, this type of LCD has a panel that produces an electronic charge when touched by fingers. And that charge sends signals to the processor to perform the task.
Many higher-end devices, Android & iPhone both, are built on capacitive touchscreen technology. This type gives a higher response rate when touched as compared to the resistive LCD, which we’re going to discuss below.
Resistive Touchscreen LCD
This type comes in two layers. When the outer layer is pressed or touched by a finger, it then meets the second layer beneath. That triggers the point of contact and the chip processes that information to perform a certain task (for example: opening an app or typing).
(Yeah, it happens so fast that we don’t even notice what’s happening underneath our fingers.)
The response isn’t as fast when compared to a capacitive LCD. And a resistive LCD often requires a stylus pen to get accurate touch every time. That’s why this technology is inexpensive and comes in lower devices mostly.

Organic Light Emitting Diode is the latest technology most displays come with. This display uses an organic material sandwiched between panels to transmit electric charge. And the charge is produced when we touch the display.
The organic material then emits light, which is brighter and gives more vibrant colors.
OLEDs are better than LCDs in all ways: these give a much faster response, true and vibrant colors, and widened viewing angles. This technology is more expensive than LCDs, that’s why it only comes in high-priced mobile phones and monitors. But, these have a shorter life span and provide no water-resistant feature.
Basically, AMOLED displays work on the same principles as OLED, a kind of a sub-type. AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) are thin, lightweight, produce vibrant colors, and look so appealing to the eyes.
These displays consume much less power than any other display type. This is a newer technology and is gaining a lot of popularity because of its peculiar features.
However, these are the most expensive and might cause screen-burn, too.
Samsung introduced the latest tech display: Super AMOLED.
What’s unique about this display is that instead of creating an extra layer beneath, Samsung made the display itself touch-responsive with built-in sensors. Now, that made it the thinnest display with the lightning-fast speed.
It looks so beautiful and produces the best colors. However, this display is super-expensive.
It’s actually a powerful, thin, durable, and scratch-resistant glass specially made to protect mobile displays from breaking. The company that manufactures the glass is Corning.
It’s the 7th generation of glass now, and it’s more durable, thinner, and stronger than ever.
Most iPhones and Android use gorilla glass for the protection of the displays. And mobile companies even advertise showcasing that their mobiles come with gorilla glass, to build the trust in the customers’ hearts that their displays won’t break.
Haptic touch brings the most realistic feel when experienced. You can literally interact with the technology. For example, you can feel the grains of sand when you touch them on a haptic display. Or, you can feel the opening and closing of a zip, the metal resisting, on a haptic display.
This is the latest and the most advanced display technology so far. Apple’s iPhone XR uses the same haptic display as its 3D touch.
This technology has improved the whole user experience immensely. Users get much better, accurate, and real-life feedback through haptic technology displays.
It’s basically a term, coined by Apple, for displays that use more than 300 pixels. That makes the displays much sharper, crisp so the human eye could not distinguish pixels individually. The actual display remains the same, for instance, LCD or IPS. But Apple got the trademark “Retina” for its high-pixel devices and uses it as a marketing strategy to sell their products.
To elaborate, Retina displays are not a standard for sharpness. This is simply a trademark of Apple for their products. There are many more valuable displays such as AMOLED or OLED that can be better than “Retina”.
